At Powerstock we provide an exciting set of learning experiences which gives all our children the essential knowledge and the skills for learning and ultimately working in our constantly changing 21st century. The ‘essentials’ of Mathematics and English are taught in the morning, but are creatively linked to all the other subjects we teach through our termly themes such as ‘Field to Plate’ where our food comes from and what we do with it! Underpinning everything we teach and help the children learn, are our universal themes of:
‘Fledgling’ – Children need to be independent and capable of initiating and following through their own ideas. We are proud to be a UNICEF RRS school where pupils learn about children’s rights but also models rights and respect in all its relationships.
‘Out and about’ – Powerstock school is proud of its unique setting and the beautiful countryside. Learning outside and what on our ‘doorstep’ is important to us.
‘Windows on the world’ – As a small rural school, learning about life all for others is important whether it is in London or Ghana. We are proud of our links with Gbullung Primary School in Ghana.
Class structure We have three mixed year group classes in our small school:
Burton class (Rec, Y1 and Y2) with Mrs Oxenbury and Mrs Greenham
Cogden class (Y3 and Y4) with Mrs Seal and Mrs Middleton
Seatown class (Y5 and Y6) with Mrs Cleden
Some children are often taught outside their ‘home’ class as we prefer to teach to a child’s ability rather than simply their chronological age. All classes have less than 25 pupils.
